I%26#39;m a new tripadvisor member - I joined just to give this TR, as I found this Forum VERY helpful in planning our trip. Also I know a question was been posted in October about the new GO rooms at the Flamingo - well, we just got back and we thought they were great.
Flamingo Hotel:
The Famingo is what it is - an older hotel. The elevators are slow, the layout old-fashioned and it lacks all the ';WOW'; factor of the newer places. That said, it was a very comfortable place for us to stay. The location was superb, the employees uniformly polite and efficient, the rates decent and overall we couldn%26#39;t have asked for better. We got a ';GO DELUXE'; room, we got a nice completely remodelled room on the 21st floor with a great view - we could watch the Bellagio fountains dance from our ';lounge';! The decor of the GO rooms probably isn%26#39;t for everyone but we%26#39;re both pretty conservative and we found it very pleasant. Almost everything was white, except for the carpet and window-lounge, which were tan and the requisite Flamingo-pink wall in the bathroom. The room was definitely good-looking but what I liked best was the design seemed to be planned for guest comfort, not just for show. The lounge was a great place to watch the Vegas view. The bathroom had both a nice full bathtub and a glass-walled shower, my husband liked watching the news on the shower mirror while he shaved! The 42'; big screen TV was a wash-out for us, as there was nothing on their channels we wanted to watch, but if you bring your own DVDs they provide a player. The mattress was about 18 inches thick (!) and the reading lights and side-tables were placed perfectly. Everything was exactly as it should be in a good hotel. Our room averaged about $300 a night including tax - not cheap, but we were very satisfied.
We didn%26#39;t go to the pool and we don%26#39;t gamble much so I don%26#39;t have anything to add on these.
Steakhouse46 (Flamingo):
Went to dinner on Sunday, as we were hungry and didn%26#39;t want to walk too far to find a good steak. Okay appetizers, very good steaks, adequate sides. Service was okay, our waiter only ';saw'; us twice, the lower-level staff pretty much served us, which was fine as they were nicer. If it wasn%26#39;t a hotel restaurant in L.V. I%26#39;d say the prices qualify it as a huge rip-off, as it is - if you go, expect to pay more than the meal is worth. That%26#39;s Vegas.
Taquerita Ca?onita (Venetian):
Had dinner there Monday night - loved it. Casual atmosphere, good food, fabulous margaritas. Sat right next to the ';canal'; and enjoyed watching the gondolas as we ate and drank. Wait staff very friendly and helpful. Not a fancy place but good food, good drinks, good service, good view - what more can you ask for on vacation?
O: (Sunday)
I won%26#39;t even go into how great this show was, but afterwards we both agreed we%26#39;d have gladly paid DOUBLE to see it. The performers, the choreography, the outstanding imagination displayed in every aspect of this show just knocked our socks off... and that%26#39;s good, because they were put back on by..
LOVE: (Monday)
What a mess. The music was good but.. I can listen to Beatles albums at home. Any show that has to use that many light-screens to distract from the performers on stage doesn%26#39;t have enough going for it. Sloppy everything, I was so disappointed. However, we figured if we pretended we paid double for our ';O'; tickets and got our ';LOVE'; tickets for free, they would both be fairly priced shows. I%26#39;d never pay anything to see that show again.
By the way, we had ';limited view'; seats for ';O'; and as ours wereon the aisle they were fine - in fact they were great as we were so close to the stage! But the poor people sitting next to the wall were practically laid out sideways trying to see most of the action. Make sure you know how limited that view is!
Don%26#39;t know how many people will read this far but I want to say THANK YOU to all the Vegas regulars who reply to newbie questions so patiently on this site - reading this forum really made it easy for me to plan our first trip to Las Vegas in a decade! I assure you, for every dumb ';same ole'; question you answer, there are a bunch of people like me who learn something new.
Trip Report: Nov 12-14, Flamingo GO Room, ';O';, LOVE
loved reading your report, as I am about to stay at Flamingo. Was surprised at the cost of your Go room per night, but they do sound nice.
One question... now that you are no longer a Vegas Newbie....will you go back?
Trip Report: Nov 12-14, Flamingo GO Room, ';O';, LOVEI know! We booked rooms late and there was nothing else we wanted for a better price - for some reason room prices skyrocketed for Monday, I think it was the start of some event.. We paid extra for the view also but since it was such a short trip, we wanted to enjoy every minute.
We%26#39;ve been to Las Vegas before.. like 10 years ago... before we had kids. :) But this was our first getaway as a couple there and we would DEFINITELY do it again. We had a blast, even though we only had two days to spend.
I forgot to mention - we both had massages at the Flamingo and although the ';Spa'; there is pretty old and not extensive, both masseurs were great. My husband had a deep-tissue from ';Peter'; and said it was the best massage he%26#39;s ever had - and that%26#39;s coming from a very tough customer!
Thanks for taking the time to posti your TR
I will eat at the Taquerita Ca?onita (Venetian): next time I am there. What was the pricing like?
I have not found myself lacking anything to do yet in the evenings, so, outside of seeing Jubilee on our first trip to LV, We have yet to want to see any shows.
Eventually, I suspect we will have evenings that are not packed trying to see and do everything the city has to offer, we may go and see a show or two, good to know O is good, Love, not so good.
RE: pricing at Taquerita Ca?onita.. I think dinner for two including 2 of their specialty Margaritas per person ran us about $100 plus tip. The drinks were probably half of that!
Annie
Thanks for taking the time to write your TR.
I too am new to this site and have joined as I am going to LV for the 1st time in FEB (can%26#39;t wait!!).
I am grateful for all the help and advise given by the many regulars who know LV inside and out. They must get tired of answering the same old questions year in and year out! Although you can search for your chosen topic it can take forever to get any proper answer by researching that way and I want to know NOW!!
Glad you had a great time.
We stayed at the Flamingo in October and agree with your comments. As we found our first room ';a bit tired'; we upgraded to the new Go room - yes it is very neat and guest friendly. For some the newly renovated ';smell'; in the hallways of new carpet may be too much but overall a good experience. Aside from the 24 hour restaurant, service was excellent.
Thanks very much for your TR and the excellent description of the GO room. I managed to get a free room at the Flamingo for two nights. Once I heard of the GO room, I called and they upgraded me to that room for no additional charge. However, I had no idea what it was really like. There is a description on their web site. But until you read it in a TR, there is no way of knowing. Now I know. Thanks.
I love that place at the Venetian...MIL and I had one margarita each...and they were great..chips and quaq...and split a burrito....it was very tasty..and about fifty bucks...
Thanks for your report! We%26#39;re planning on trying Taqeria Canonita when staying at the Venetian next week... glad to know what to expect for cost! Also, sorry to hear you didn%26#39;t enjoy LOVE. My mom decided she wanted to go to Vegas just to see it, I figured it was a good excuse for another Vegas trip. Saw O in May and adored it. I hope I%26#39;m not disappointed in LOVE. I appreciate your insights!
