My first trip report so bear with me:
Flew in on Southwest from Baltimore on Nov. 3 arrived around 5:30pm. I had purchased a round trip transfer from the airport to the hotel in advance and boy was I sorry. Never ever book with Showtime !!! The shuttle service was so slow that we waited atleast 45 minutes to get picked up. We kept seeing a lot other companies shuttles over and over again, but no showtime. When the driver did finally arrive, he was very rude. It was a nightmare trying to get to the Luxor from the airport at that time of day. Traffic was awful, but we finally arrive at around 7pm.
At the Luxor, the check-in was a breeze. We only stood in line about 10min. and we were able to still get a room in the pyramid. I don%26#39;t know why the Luxor gets so many bad reviews on here. Yes , the hotel is dim, but when was the last time you saw a brightly lit pyramid. I thought the dim lights went great along with the theme. My room was on the 25th floor right near the inclinators. The room was very clean and about what I had expected it to be. It was no Bellagio, but , I didn%26#39;t spend and arm and a leg to sleep there either.
It made for a comfortable nights stay.
The first night we headed over to the Mandalay Bay and tried their buffet. Their food was great, they had a lot to choose from and the desserts were soooo good!! I really enjoyed the chocolate fountain.I also was seated near Paul ';the punisher '; Williams and his entourage. He was scheduled to fight on the undercard the next evening.
I dropped a couple of dollars in their slot machines and didn%26#39;t hit much. So I headed back over to the Luxor. On the way there, I passed another boxer, James Toney.
The next morning , I picked up my tickets to the Floyd Mayweather Fight and headed over to the MGM for their champagne breakfast. It was a good value.
I spent a little time in NY,NY but didn%26#39;t win much their either.
I headed back over to the Luxor in the evening to get ready for the fight. I won about $225 on a quarter slot machine .
Grabbed a bite to eat at the House of Blues then proceeded to the fight. I passed Ray Jay (singer) in the Lobby. Once seated, I had a great view of Denzel Washington, Charles Barkley and Tiger Woods. I had and awesome time!!!
The next day I went over to the Tropicana to see the Titanic Exhibit, it was very interesting, but I%26#39;m not sure if it was worth price. While there, I also bought a ticket to another exhibit they had called ';Bodies'; . My advise would be not to waste your money. I felt like I was back in Biology class. They really, really , really need to tear down the Tropicana. The smell in the hallway near the rest rooms was terrible. It just smells old and moldy. I couldn%26#39;t wait to get out of there.
Once, I got some fresh air, I headed over to M%26amp;M world and then down to the Desert Passage at the Aladdin. Just before you get to the Aladddin there is a small circle of outdoor shops where I found Las Vegas%26#39; hidden treasure. It was a foot massage spot that only charged $20 for 20 minutes. Believe me it was probably the best $20 I spent while I was there.
I ended the evening playing in the Excalibur. I never really cared for the the Excalibur and I%26#39;ve always thought that there casino was a little out dated. But after winning $1025 on a nickle slot machine it is now one of my favorite places in Vegas.
On my last day, I had a delicious breakfast at the Pyramid Cafe then I hopped in a cab back to the airport.
Can%26#39;t wait until May 2007 when I do it all again!!!!!!!
TR Nov. 3-6, Luxor
Sounds like you had a blast mrsnelson, great trip report.
TR Nov. 3-6, Luxor
Great trip report! I stayed at the Luxor on Nov 6-9th. Happy to hear you had some winnings!
Hi Mrsnelson
I have read a few reviews of the Luxor lately and they mention construction going on near the check in area. One person said they seemed to be taking away the giant statues. Is that possible? They are enormous and if you start taking out the Egyptian look then what theme can a hotel called the Luxor have?
Casino Slot Queen
I%26#39;ve read the post about construction as well, but there were no signs of construction in the lobby at all during my stay. And the statues are still in place. And eveything was the same as I had remembered it.
Great TR - sounds like you were a big winner! I am also a fan of the Luxor - it does a good job for what it is, a big mid-quality theme casino resort.
Can you provide more details about the foot massage place - exact location, name of the place? That sounds like something that would be of great interest to the many folks here that love to walk up and down the strip - and to the ladies that make the mistake of wearing heels in Vegas!
Great trip repot! The fight sounds so cool! My husband would love it.
