Trip report 11/05/06-11/09/06: Flamingo

This trip was to celebrate our seventh anniversary-we were married in Vegas in 1999. We are in our thirties and we go to Vegas 1-2 times a year. We are not huge drinkers or gamblers but, we love the fun atmosphere that is Vegas. Alarm rang at 4:30 am and off we were to Philly. Flew USAirways without any problems. Apparently, we sat on the runway for 30 minutes. Was lost on me, I fell asleep as soon as I sat down! Arrived on time. Took only 10 minutes to retrieve bags and onto the taxi line. Line was a little long but, it moved fast and we were off to the Flamingo 15 minutes later. Right before we got our cab, a guy was screaming at the cab guys that he did not want to wait in line. They told him if he did not quietly get in line that he would be security%26#39;s problem. He was apologizing big time to his wife as we pulled away. Funny, how some people think they are special. Did not have to say ';no tunnel'; he took the right route from the start. Ride cost $15.00. Arrived at the Flamingo in less than 10 minutes. Check-in was fine. Took about 10 minutes to reach the front of the line. Check-in by Alison who was very nice-we have had her before. We were offered a Go room at no additional charge but, it was not ready and we wanted a ready room. Received a ready non-smoking king on the seventh floor overlooking the gardens. Great view. Room was remodeled a few years ago. Very clean. Comfortable bed with extra pillows. Colors were neutrals. Nice furniture-2 end tables, couch with coffeee table, comfy extra chair, mirror with desk and chair and armoire with TV. Windows were floor to ceiling. Room was right near the elevators but, we never heard them or any noise for that matter. The floors that are being renovated are closed off. The desk told us that all of the upper floor rooms are now Go rooms. We requested to have extra towels each day. We tipped on the first day when they brought the extra towels and we tipped $5.00/day for housekeeping and $10.00 at the end of our stay. The room was cleaned early each day-we used the clean early sign and never had a problem. Now, that we got unpacked and changed, it was time to get started.

Our tradition has become to start our trip with lunch at Margaritaville. We love the rooftop. The rooftop line is different from the rest of the restaurant. You just go up to the roof and get in that line. The wait for rooftop seating was 5 minutes and the wait for the rest of the restaurant was 1 hour. They had a a live band and guys in stilts making balloon hats for everybody-not just kids. Started with 2 drinks-1 margarita and 1 dacquiri. For lunch, I had a Caesar salad and the California chicken sandwich with avocado mayo. My husband had a Caesar and the Cheeseburger in Paradise. Everything was great and the service was great, too. With 2 iced teas after the drinks the bill came to $42.39 with tax. Fun start to the trip. After lunch, headed to Bally%26#39;s, Paris, Barbary and back to Flamingo. Gambled along the way and came back even. Grabbed some drinks and sat out by the firepit overlooking the grounds out back. There was a wedding going on in the gazebo. Back to the room to clean up for dinner. Walked to Bellagio. Checked out the Conservatory. Was set-up in a fall setting-scarecrow, pumpkins and ducks. Very pretty as usual. Traded picture taking with another group. It was cool because their camera was a very expensive high-tech camera. Felt silly handing them our camera and we have a brand new digital camera but, this was something the paparazzi use. Fontana had a huge line so, we went to Caramel. Waitress was great. I fell in love with a new drink-called the Oreo shake. Very strong and yes it had Oreos in it. The waitress was nice enough to give me the recipe. I stopped at 2 drinks or I would not have made it to dinner. My husband had an Appletini which was also great. 3 drinks and tip cost more than lunch at Margaritaville. $55.00.

We had a 8 pm reservation at FIX. We had a great table for 2 on the casino side. Being right off the casino floor, this restaurant has a fun energy. It is also a very beautiful restaurant. I started with the Mushroom soup with goat cheese and had the Filet mignon for my entree. My husband started with the BLT Wedge salad and had the NY strip for his entree. Food was great. They also serve great bread. No room for dessert. With 2 iced teas, bill came to 139.00 with tax (before tip). Played a little roulette at Barbary and slots and slots at Flamingo. Won $75 at roulette. It was 1:30 am east coast time so, we headed back to the room. I%26#39;ll post days 2/3 and 4/5 in separate posts.

Very detailed and descriptive, thank you. What%26#39;s a ';go'; room?

And can you describe the oreo drink more =)

Thanks, Lowrance. A GO room is what they are calling there new rooms as they remodel. You can see them on the website. I%26#39;m not sure why they call them that but, they look modern. I know they have a plasma TV. I actually like what we got vs. what I saw in the pictures. They look very nice. My tastes just are not that modern.

I like the warm neutrals. Our room was remodeled I think she said in 2004. Here is the recipe for the Oreo shake: 1 oz Grey goose vanilla vodka, 2 oz. Godiva liquor-dark chocolate, 2 oz. Godiva liquor-white chocolate, 2 oz. half and half and Oreo cookie shavings.

And it is served in a martini glass on ice.

Thanks EAG...that sounds delicious!!!!

Thanks for the recipe! We have not tried Fix, but it sounds really good from your description. Glad you had fun!!!

You are both welcome. That drink was so great! Fix is really fun. We went with friends in September and back this time. They have a pre-fixe before O, too-$40 for 3-courses and they are doing a $70 Thanksgiving feast.
