Just got back from 2 nites in Las Vegas. Stayed at the Hard Rock, it was probably the nicest hotel room we%26#39;ve ever stayed in. Had a nice view of the pool (not many people as it was a cool day, and closed for the season the next night) and the strip at night. Loved wandering around the casino gambling some and looking at the rock memorabilia (SP?). Won $100 at the blackjack table (with my wife%26#39;s boss%26#39;s money, how cool!!)
Now my question: When (and why) did all the casino%26#39;s slots stop accepting and paying out real coins? Putting dollar bills in machines and getting receipts if you won stinks. All the fun of playing is walking around hearing the noise of coins hitting the tray and if you hit yourself for a few or a lot, it makes all the difference. Now all the casinos seem sort of sterile. The fake coin sound effects is bogus. The only place that we saw that still accepted and payed off in coins was Slots of Fun. Their machines also seemed a lot looser than the big guys. Unfortunately we didn%26#39;t stay long because of the smell and the clientele (SP?).
Anybody? Thanks
Slot Machines
It seems that they have been converting over to these new machines over the past few years. I am sure that part of the reason would be that it takes fewer employees to manage the machines and in the long run, saves them money. I am with you, I love hearing the money fall in the trays and I miss that everytime I am there. The positive thing is your hands stay a lot cleaner from not handling the change. I also do not like the direction that all the newer slot machines are going with all the differnt rows and so many reels. I can%26#39;t tell if I am winning anything or not, we are heading there in one week, hopefully I can figure some of the newer machines out while I am there.
Slot Machines
Very simple, it comes down to biz. TITO is a lot more secure and a whole lot less work for the casino.
and your hands stay a whole lot cleaner too!!
TITO leaves the option open of someone forgetting to cash their ticket in. I like it cuz of the elimination of the ';nasty coin'; hands.
I used to get sick after every Vegas visit, not so much now...
abit OT but I just got back from a week in vegas and never really understood the draw of these slot machines
being from the UK our fruit machines in pubs have nudges and holds and features that you can play to win the money
all the slots in the casinos just had a spin, cash out and bet button and that was it but people were on them for hours on end, some all day
i played a few times but got bored so quickly i went straight onto the video poker instead where I could actually do something to win like holding cards etc
TITO also took away my main money saving tactic, after a big win I%26#39;d cashout the coins because it takes too long to pump back in $20 in nickles. but if you%26#39;re using TITO, it%26#39;s easy to blow right through it. So my guess is the casinos get more money in and it saves them money by reducing the numbers of changers and cashiers needed.
Thanks for the answers. One last question: What does TITO stand for?
ticket in, ticket out
The coinless slots help the casino%26#39;s profits in several ways. They don%26#39;t have to hire as many change people or people to empty the coins from the machines. When a machine pays out in vouchers a player is more inclined to pay off the last few credits rather than cash out an have to take a voucher to the booth to collect a dollar or less.
I read last week when I was there that there is another movement to go with ';credit card'; machines';. Presently they are illegal in Nevada. Bally%26#39;s tried a simular machine a few years ago, but really caught flack from it. Image the credit card bill!!!!!
