The $4.00 price of a bottle of water at the Starbucks in the Mirage says it all about the growing greed of Las Vegas. ';They'; want it all - an average of $16.99 for a Sunday buffet brunch (how many plates of fatty beef, mediocre soggy shrimp and anorexic snow crab legs can the average person eat??), $150/night average for a room at an older strip hotel on weekends, $10-$25 blackjack (and don%26#39;t expect to be comped anywhere on the strip at that level unless you%26#39;re playing 23 hours a day) and $100-$150 average for shows, $12.00 for a martini and $5.00 for a domestic beer.
Please note - the word average. Yes, there are less expensive everythings available - but not to a great extent.
Making a profit is what any business should be all about - but Las Vegas has gone beyond the pale when somehow the casinos feel justified in raping customers for the necessities.
Justified are the ever-increasing billions of gambling profits made by the casinos - that%26#39;s why people come to Las Vegas. I will willingly lose my wad having fun and taking my chances - but if Vegas continues to rip me off in every other avenue of my trips, I will simply choose to take my same chances at a local riverboat.
Shame on you, Vegas. As Jimi Hendrix sang, castles made of sand fall into the sea eventually.....
The $4.00 Bottle Water and Beyond Greed
I think if you travel much you would see vegas prices are below the norm, no one spends more on rooms and no one upgrades their rooms more often. When you build a $3billion dollar hotel you need to make it back somehow.
The $4.00 Bottle Water and Beyond Greed
As long as you pay, you are a willing, accepting party. That is not ';rape'; but consensual interchange. I agree LV will push and push the envelope but it%26#39;s the epitome of a supply and demand get what you want market....They may get a comeuppance and you may be the start of the trend. That is until your next time at their tables negates your whole rant.
I%26#39;m not sure I understand this post. This person claims they%26#39;re from Las Vegas under their screen name. Why do they care what Starbucks at the Mirage charges for water or what hotel rates are? If you are from Las Vegas, just be glad that people like me are coming and making it possible for Nevada to not have a state income tax. Looks like another troll post to me.
I understand your frustration...but, it is supply and demand. The rooms are not that expensive if you compair them to others in high demand locations. Shows.......where else can you see these types of shows. Maybe Broadway, but those prices are about the same as Vegas. In regards to the price of water and drinks, there is something you can do. Make a trip to a grocery store and bring that type of thing back to the room. Every floor has an ice machine and....beleive it or not, they have not started charging for ice. You can also bring a bottle of liquor with you and have a few drinks in the room before heaqding out for the evening. Also drinks are free in the casino, so sit by a slot machine and order a few.....
I don%26#39;t think Vegas is even close to pricing itself out of business. It is a unique, fun, exciting place where you can see and do so many things that you can not anywhere else. For me.....I SHALL RETURN%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;
Have you ever stayed in a **** or ***** hotel in NY, San Fran, Cicago?
You pay much more in those sities and you get much less back.
true, a bottle of water is $4 at starbucks, or the hotel gift shops, but they will be happy to give you the same water for free, if you gamble.
Same goes for $5 beers.
I Think you better take few vacations and see how expencive the rest of resorts are (Hawaii for example).
Hotels in NYC have gotten insane.. you can%26#39;t get a 3 star or better for less than $250-$300 a night now-maybe a little less during the week.
1) We go to the Von%26#39;s when we land and buy our own water
2) When you gamble, you get free bottles of water (+ tip)...
so I guess I%26#39;m missing the anger here?
I agree with OGA23 - supply and demand is the American way. If you think the casinos/hotels are financially ';raping'; the consumers, buy their stock and join them in the profits.
We get two bottles of water for $1 Downtown ( same place you get postcards for 10 cents each). Vegas is one of the least expensive places we travel to-which is why we go four times a year- and if luck is with us, we win the whole cost of the trip back too- where elase do you have even a chance to do that!
Sorry man but i live in Brazil and prices here for the same you get in Vegas is way worse than that. That´s the reason i don´t travel in my country it´s cheaper for me to go to Vegas than spend one week in a resort here. Don´t forget about the high light hotels like Copacabana Palace just to know, Elton John will perform on Jan 19th on the sands of Copacabana (free Show ) I made a reservation at the Copacabana Palace with a view to the stage, and guess what !!!!!! U$ 750,00 a night the regular price they are not charging more just for the weekend or for seen Elton John , thats the regular price you pay for a standard room with a view, and if you will try to get a cheaper and watch the show from the pool, you can get a better room price for just U$ 400,00. Be happy Vegas is a bargain.
