Accommodation options HELP!!

Hi

We are considering a family type trip to Las Vegas in late May early April next year. There are so many accommodation options!!

We will be travelling with a 15 yr old and a 13 yr old and want something central, roomy, exciting and not too pricey (i.e around AUD250/day for about 7 days). Does LV have peak seasons??

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks Mintie

Go late May, with kids you want good pool weather

MGM or MGM Signature, not as central but nearerst the big themed proerties, bigger pool area, and exciting

Is that budget for one room or two? If it%26#39;s for one, you%26#39;ve got no problems, if it%26#39;s for two rooms together, that is going to limit your options.

I%26#39;m not going to give you the spiel about whether Vegas is a good place to take your kids, only because I%26#39;m starting to bore myself :) But please see one of the many other threads on this topic and consider whether Vegas is the best destination for you and your family.

If you decide to stick with it, I recommend the Luxor as an inexpensive hotel that has things for your teens to do.

Lowest rates are Sun Mon Tues Wed Thurs, Fri and Sat will double and triple.

I would choose Aladdin Planet Hollywood for the location and the big bathrooms.

MGM has a great pool area and a theme park behind it. The Monte Carlo has a good pool area with a lazy river and other attractions. Mandalay Bay is more expensive but has the best pool- lazy river, wave pool, there is the shark reef there too. Just some things teens may be interested in.

I have been in May several times and it is already getting hot there. In June-Aug it gets really hot. I have been there when it was 115. It is nice year around and is much cheaper this time of year. Avoid New Year%26#39;s Eve, it is way more. Also try to avoid Fri and Sat nights, thats when room prices soar.

NYNY has a rollercoaster and an arcade (although seemed to be a playground for adults more than kids).

MGM theme park is history

Luxor is nice, fun, spectacular, reasonably priced-

not central, but a free tram takes you up to Tropicana Ave to start your strip walk. Lots of fun themed mega-casinos in the south strip area near Luxor

Take the family to San Francisco instead. The kids can tour Alcatraz, the giant Redwood Forests , and go to Chinatown for Dim Sum.

Has the poster been subjected to the rolling billboards cruising the Strip and offering escort services? How large are those billboards anyways, anyone know?

You may live to regret this trip as a family affair, or you may be very progressive and open-minded. Plenty have done it w/kids and survived, many have rued the day. Inform yourself and make the best decision for your family.

Personally, I%26#39;m with Lulu. Awesome dim sum at Yank Sink (sp?) in the Financial District, not Chinatown.

I%26#39;ve taken three teenage kids to Vegas, all had a ton of fun and enjoyed it immensely. My suggestion is to stay at one of the big hotels on the strip, the choices listed in previous posts are good (if your kids like to swim, stay at one of the places that have a good pool area). Some on this board frown on kids in Vegas, but to the normal visitor there, very little goes on there that isnt shown or suggested on any TV show that most teenage kids watch, in fact, for my kids it was a reality check, as most places you will be with your kids there are very tourist orientated and rated PG at worst, I think they were kind of expecting to see way more of the adult themed Vegas that TV and movies portray.

If you are there for 7 days, I would suggest renting a car mid-way through the stay and traveling to the Hoover Dam (1 hour away), Red Rock Canyon for hiking (30 minutes away), or Valley of Fire (several hour drive). Hoover Dam and Red Rock Canyon are 1/2 day trips each, if you go in the morning then the kids can swim in the afternoon (thats what we did). As you will be there for a week, see a couple of shows, tickets for the ';B'; grade shows can be had for 1/2 price at various outlets, but take in at least one top of the line (Circ) show.

I have also taken teens to Vegas and they LOVED it, though they are all waiting until they are 21 before they return. They particularly enjoyed the shopping (Reebok in the Outlet Mall was a big hit!), Luxor, Stratosphere, Gamesworks and the M%26amp;M store.

They still talk about the buffets (and being allowed chocolate donuts at breakfast!) and the Rainforest Cafe was a popular diner venue.

Most of all, they enjoyed the numerous pools at the MGM; so check out pool areas when looking at ppool areas. They%26#39;re worth it!

Yes, Vegas is losing the %26#39;family appeal%26#39; it tried hard to cultivate in the late 80%26#39;s, early 90%26#39;s, but you can still have a great time with kids. Enjoy!
