Hello,
My hubby and I are planning to go to Vegas Dec 20-24. We live in the East Coast and it is our first time to Vegas. Couple of questions:
1 - We would like to stay at a nice hotel that is not overpriced - how is Treasure Island and MGM Grand? I am getting good deals on those but the rooms are either Standard or Deluxe.
2 - We are only going for 4 days, will that be enough to cover LV and Grand Canyon? I heard that Grand Canyon is only about 3-4 hrs away, so we were thinking of doing a day trip but we also don%26#39;t it to take away from our LV time. We don%26#39;t want to get exhausted from driving to GC and back in a day + having to deal with the long flight from the East Coast! Would it be just better to skip GC on this trip?
3 - Do you guys recommend any shows there? I have no idea which ones are good so any suggestions would be great!
Thanks in advance :)
First time to Vegas - questions
1 - OK I am staying at TI this weekend so I am not sure I can let you know how my stay was when I return.
2 – we went to GC when we were there…I think you have plenty of time…
3 – Mystere, Zumanity, O they were all good, TO me
First time to Vegas - questions
Thanks for your advice ! :) Could you please let me know how your stay went at TI after you return? TIA!
Treasure Island is a fabulous hotel and in a good location, you will love it. Wow- grand canyon and back in one day seems like way too much driving, I think it is more like 5 hours. Save it for another trip.
I think you could do both but it would be a real stretch and you could not do them both justice.
There is a lot to do just in Las Vegas and you cannot cover it all in 4 days. Also, be sure to give yourself some unplanned time, either as much needed downtime or time to take advantage of unforseen opportunities.
Treasure Island is a fine, decent place with a nice cental location. Avoid the cheap standard room in any hotel as it will most likely be the worst they have. Rather go for the next level. That better room is most likely to have been recently updated. There are a lot of decent hotels in Las Vegas and the bad ones are:(mostly) really not allt that bad just not as fancy.
Of course there are exceptions to that rule which most people will not like:

So Do Your Homework on the main review site
If 2 out of 3 people like a place and the price and location is good , then I say go for it but with suitable expections. You often get what you pay for but do check the price of the room when you plan to be there as well as what it will go for on other days. That way you can boast that your room goes for $350.00 but YOU got it for just $89.00.

That%26#39;s a good time of year to get great rates. Treasure Island is $89 per night and on your first 2 nights you can get the ';Ignite'; package which includes $20 free chips and $15 free dining.
If the weather is really nice and you want to take a drive, think about Zion National Park. It%26#39;s do-able in one day and you can rent a car from the hotel...but check the weather outlook before you go.

Both hotels have good reputations...I would probably pick Treasure Island, but it is a close call.
I would NOT suggest going to the GC in that short of a visit. Not sure when you arrive or depart, but Dec. 20 and Dec 24 are travel days... that gives you two FULL days in Vegas. I would plan to return to Vegas again another day and consider the trip to the Canyon then...or if you have loads of spare money,,, do the helicopter flight thing to the GC.
I suggest a Cirque show.... Ka, Mystere, O, Love
1) Mirage, Luxor, and Paris are mid-priced and nice
2) I would wait on the GC and stick with Vegas...enough to see there!
3) Any Cirque show, but since they tend to be expensive, maybe one of the classics: Jubilee, etc?
I have stayed at MGM twice and loved it. The first time was in a Spa suite with a fabulous view of the strip--great room. The next time was a deluxe room (can%26#39;t remember what floor), but it was a nice room as well. MGM was very accomodating to our requests and was just an overall great experience. We loved everything about MGM--also,we didn%26#39;t find the size of the hotel an issue, but I%26#39;ve heard it as a concern to some.

All things being equal, I would think that location would be a factor in any trip to Las Vegas. Casinos are far apart, much further than you would think from any map.
At the MGM you are kind of at one end but I suppose the same could be said of TI. Maybe a decent place more mid Strip so you could walk the same distance north or south and see the sites..
I know I am opening a can of worms but maybe somewhere near Flamingo Road.
Try hard to get a good Strip view, a good one is like a living moving postcard.
