to book or not to book

hi

was wondering my partner and myself are planning our first trip to las vegas may-early june 2007 and my partner was thinking of not booking our hotel untill we arrived in vegas as its all too confusing on a nice hotel good pool and not too dear i have visited all the sights and am now more confused than ever.........

so what would our chances be of getting a good price at the lobby or would we end up on the street.....

any help would be great...

to book or not to book

You would certainly get a fantastic price if you arrived at the hotel with no booking, fantastic for the hotel that is.

Under no circumstance arrive in Vegas without a booking,if there is a large convention in town(50,000+) you will not get a room.

Book one,two or even three hotels that take your fancy, with most you can cancel 48 hr in advance with no penalty(check)

If the rates for one or all of your nights go down you can ring and get the lower rate,if the rate goes up it does not affect you.

Most people will advise you to stay centre trip for a first visit.

If you give what you are looking for in a hotel, your budget and likes /dislikes you will plenty of good advice on this site.

Again do not arrive in Vegas without a hotel booking.

to book or not to book

Not a good idea to travel and not have a hotel booked.

Check out the websites for each hotel that your interested in and find out the location.

Ask on here about opinions of the hotel and/or do a search on here for the hotel that your interested in.

Do not go to vegas without a reservation.

Absolutley book the hotel before you arrive!

Many hotels have a rack rate which is often astronomical and they will charge you that amount especially if the hotel is near capacity. Why? Because you are a captive audience and they know it! (Do you really want to hire another cab to take you to a different hotel(s)?)

Most hotels have specials only available online or direct BEFORE you arrive. Some people think if they show up without a reservation that the hotel will give them an incredible rate just to fill the room, not so, most hotels will charge you at least double what you could have paid before you arrived.

I agree with all the posts. YOU MUST BOOK BEFORE.

thanks everyone looks like back to the internet again.....

well while im here any ideas of a nice aircon pool larger than average ok price hotels for first time in vegas do i stay in a couple over my 10-12 night stay????????

Book beforehand, for sure, and you are best to book directly with the hotel, not with travelocity or expedia or any other outside company.

The advice to book a few places then cancel once you decide it good. Whatever the price now, it WILL come down by the time you plan to travel, especially if you end up there in June vs. May. The prices in June or less than May, in general, if there are no conventions, and sometimes, the later in June the better.

For a 10-12 night stay, I would stay at more than one place, but don%26#39;t go crazy changing up every few nights. If you pick one hotel in one part of the strip, the other time you will want to be at a totally diff part of strip, or consider off-strip... some might suggest Rio, Orleans, Green Valley Ranch, or maybe even downtown. You might try one part of the trip at a themed type hotel, and one part at another type.

My suggestion: Center to North of Center first part: Bally%26#39;s, Flamingo, Bellagio, Caesar%26#39;s, Mirage, Treasure Island, Harrah%26#39;s.

Then south strip, or south of central: Luxor, MGM, NYNY, Monte Carlo, Aladdin.

We have stayed 3 times at the Bellagio which is midstrip and have great pools. Also have a look at J W Marriott in Summerlin which is about 30 mins from the strip. This hotel is a place to chill. You could spend a few days there and then hit the strip. Read reviews on Bellagio and J W Marriott. We enjoyed both. Mandalay Bay is also a great hotel but it is not midstrip. However it has many great pools including a beach and wave pool. Also topless pool if you are that way inclined!
