Who has eaten at these or other downtown restaurants? Please give your experiences/ opinions. Also would like to know which are 24 hr.
Not interested in Hugos and others on the pricey side.
Thanks to all.
Upper Deck, Magnolias, etc. Downtown
Magnolias( Four Queens) and Carson St. Cafe ( Golden Nugget) are both 24 hr places and have good food at reeasonable prices- basically coffee shops - nice but not fine dining.
The Redwood Grill at California Casino ( just behind Las Vegas Club ) is a nicer ambiance but not open 24 hrs i%26#39;m pretty sure. They also have a nice restaurant called Pasta Pirate. Both are pretty reasonable. California has a 24 hr. Coffee Shop too ( can%26#39;t remember the name) but I think Magnolias and Carson St. would be the best bets of those available. Some folks like Bay City Diner at Golden Gate, but I saw little roaches crawling along the counter when we stopped for coffee, so it%26#39;s off my list.
Upper Deck, Magnolias, etc. DowntownI stayed at the 4 Queens and ate at Magnolia%26#39;s twice for breakfast and once for dinner. If you join the Player%26#39;s Club at the 4 Queens you can get steak or ham and eggs at Magnolia%26#39;s for $4.00. I had the ham and it was quite a meal for $4.00. I also had a barbeque rib dinner for $6.40, again with the players club card. It only takes a minute to sign up. They also have a good size hamburger and fries 24/7 for $4.00.
I also ate at Fitzgerald%26#39;s dinner buffet for $10.00 and it was well worth the price and it was not crowded like some of the more popular buffets. Did the breakfast buffet at Main Street Station and the food was quite good, but for me it was too crowded and not worth the hassle.
My favorite downtown snack was the 99 cent shrimp cocktail at the Golden Gate. I stopped there three times. I also found the Golden Gate does a very good frozen margarita. You can get a big one for $4.00 or a giant for $ 6.00, but the $ 1.00 small size was all I needed and a great bargain.
I have had a few meals in the Upper Deck and have always enjoyed them. You can get a thick Prime Rib and plate of soup for $10. Also, if you are a baseball fan, they have a lot of memorabilia.
Bump.....
I am also interested in DT opinions since we will be staying at Four Queens this January :)
Vegasluvr,
The Four Queens was great. I posted a report. The room was old, but it really was cleaner than the rooms I had at the Flamingo or the Imperial Palace. It is so small compared to strip casinos, very easy to get around.
Very goos 12.95 steak dinner with great mashed potatoes at Magnolia%26#39;s, also usually an 8.25 prime rib also. Very good. No ambience, great service, however once the waitress drops that bill off, if it%26#39;s busy, you won%26#39;t be seeing her again! Leave the tip and pay the cashier.
I%26#39;ve stayed at the Four Queens three times. Ask for a room in the South Tower. The rooms are a little larger (not much) but nicer. If you can, ask for a higher floor with a view of the strip. I%26#39;ve always been happy there, and I love downtown. We ate at Magnolia%26#39;s a few times and were very satisfied. Have a great time.
