I keep reading that the Strip is basically unwalkable end-to-end. The best info I can find says it%26#39;s 4.5 miles. I%26#39;m in fairly decent shape, travel frequently and walk everywhere when I get to my destination. Is it really that bad?
Is the Strip really that bad?
It is a lot of walking, we do it every time and have survived. But remember, you%26#39;ll be stopping all along the way to check out the hotels, casinos, attractions, people, etc. If you get tired, just hop the bus that runs the strip.
Is the Strip really that bad?
It really is, especially obviously in summertime. I find the journey from MGM down to the Wynn to be quite doable, but that is my stopping point and I%26#39;m usually weary when I fget there. I too walk quite a bit but the Strip does take its toll.
Plus I%26#39;m easily distracted, and it%26#39;s so easy to get off track.
Also it is not a direct walk designed to get you from here to there.
It is designed to get you to casinos and snakes around the propertes. It goes up and down at the intersections.
Fact there is a moving walkway to get you into certain casinos but you have to walk back out on your own.
Agree with previous poster. If you simply walk the sidewalk, it might be 4.5 miles, but that is tough to do. Various sidewalks wind in and out into casino properties. Of course you will want to stop in one or more casinos and they are huge! You can walk miles in each one just exploriing. Finding a restroom may require a half mile excursion!
Plus, one way is 4.5, to walk back another 4.5, plus the casinos inside and out another 4 miles or more and we are talking a half marathon!!
Seriously, when I walked from Bellagio to MGM and back, I found myself sore and exhausted.
It%26#39;s only bad if you do as I do - drink and a bet at each casino along the way. Starting at Mandalay Bay, vision gets kind of rough by time you hit Mirage. If you make it as far at TI, well, don%26#39;t blame me if you end up diving into the water. It does look oh so refreshing.
It seems impossible, doesn%26#39;t it . . . that a 4.5 mile stretch of street could be so difficult to handle?
I agree with the previous poster . . . if you simply walk it . . . end to end . . . (although let me add . . . NOT in the heat of the desert sun), you can do it. But why would you want to? You%26#39;d miss out on seeing the insides of the casinos along the way . . . and all there is to see and do.
Take your time and see what you want to see. I suggest staying somewhere mid-strip. That way you can walk north one day (or two) and south one day (or two) and spend another day (yet . . . or two) at Center Strip.
As I was advised
Stay mid strip.
First day get a taxi to mandalay bay and walk half way up strip, stop for lunch, cross over the strip and walk back down to end of strip.
Get taxi back to hotel.
Second day, taxi to Stratosphere and do the same.
Hop in and out of casinos that take your fancy.
REPEAT as often as necessary.
Go with a plan.
Speaking of walking, unless you are into urban adventure and/or STDs, don%26#39;t try the walk between the Strat and Downtown at night. Day time can be interesting too.
Don%26#39;t forget that some casinos have Monorail stops also. When tired of walking (or if its too hot outside) use the monorail or the bus.
Never walk from North of the strip to down town, it is kind of dangerous when its dark, and during the day, it is a boring long walk, with nothing to see
