Trip Report Day 2 - The Fab Four and some winning poker

After a depressing night, we awoke to another day in beautiful Vegas. We decided that today will be the day we use our tickets to the Fab Four(Beatles impersonators). So we went to the Desert Passage and found the box office. No one was there and I had a strange sensation that these free tickets werent going to be ';free';. Sure enough, the lady asked if we wanted to ';insure'; our seats tonight. The way it works that people that paid to insure the seats(VIP) would get to sit down first while everyone else had to wait in line and go in after the people that paid for VIP(btw it was $10 a ticket for it). We decided to take our chances with the free tickets. The show started at 6pm and seeing the line start an hour early for the 2pm show tells me that we had to show up early.

Being that we were a little hungry(very little) we went to Blondies for some food which is right across from the V theatre. Blondies is a wannabe Hooters with less chicks and less revealing outfits. The host was very cute but damn short. Our waitress was cute, not stunning but cute. Overall, the food is what I expected. Nothing to scream about but good nontheless. I had the Pizza Steak(philly cheesesteak with mozarella and marinara) and my buddy had the burger. The Pizza Steak reminded me of a local philly cheesesteak place so it was good. It%26#39;s not fine dining but a welcome break from the buffets.

Now comes one of my big ideas for the trip that ended terribly. Neither of us have really played at a Harrahs casino in Vegas and my great idea was to head to a Harrah%26#39;s casino, sign up for the card, play a bit of money and then hope for us to be on mailing lists for some nice offers that I see every now and then. With that, we went to Bally%26#39;s even though Paris is right next door to the Aladdin(my reasoning was that Paris is a bit higher end, while Ballys was around the middle in overall room prices). I thought Ballys was interesting. Had a classy feel to it even though it was all underground, or felt like it was underground. Anways, we signed up for the total rewards card and my thoughts were to play some roulette using our same method. Well, that did not end up well. The result was a quick $200 gone in about an hour. As we made our depressing journey back to the hotel room, we passed through Paris and relunctantly took a break from the action at the room.

About an hour and half before the show, we made our way to the theatre with suprisingly no line. Rather than bge subject to the gawks and stares of the passerbys(or simply just looking like dorks), we went to get a drink at the Coffee Bean place. Almost exactly an hour before, we went back to the V theatre and suprised at the line that sprang up all the sudden. We took our place at the back of the line and waited patiently. While the VIPs made their way in first, eventually us ';freebies'; made our way in. The theatre is small so there%26#39;s really not a bad seat in the house. Prior to the start, there are two screens that showed Beatles trivia(which I got all right even though I%26#39;m not a big Beatles fan). At 6pm, a recording came on done by none other than Penn Gillette. The focus of this recording, and the overall message throughout the night, was that these guys were actually playing the music and singing the lyrics. No lip syncing. Out came the host of the show, an Ed Sullivan impresonator, who told some quick jokes and introduced the Fab Four. Have to say, these guys really looked the part. Not just hair and clothes, but they did have some facials characteristics that went along with their respective Beatle. Three or four songs in, suprisingly they talked. Paul and John made some jokes and overall played up the crowd. For some of the songs(Twist and Shout and I Saw Her Standing There), they had the crowd interact and sing with the songs. Suprisingly, I thought this show was going to be just old Beatles song(mop head days). After a seque with the Ed Sullivan guy doing a few more jokes, the Fab Four came out in their Sgt. Pepper%26#39;s gear. Following several classic songs, then came another break with some more jokes and so on. Then came out John dressed in Lennon%26#39;s white suit on the Abbey Road cover, and proceeded to talk about how one of his heroes who talked about peace and love, was brutally murdered. It was very emotional and really did seem like he was tearing up. He began with a rendition of ';Imagine'; which was very good. The rest of Beatles came up to do a few more songs from the last Beatles album(dressed like they did from Abbey Road, except for Paul who was dressed a little differently). Prior the last song, Hey Jude, they introduced everyone with their real names and that ended the show. This is probably the best free show I%26#39;ve ever been to. A must watch for any Beatles/music fan. Everyone left with a big smile on their face.

For dinner, we went to the Paris buffet. Like the Bellagio a very good buffet. A nice selection and great tasting. Plus, unlike other casinos, they%26#39;re not stingy with the carved beefs. My prime rib was big and thick, unlike the typical buffet. Overall, still give the edge to the Bellagio for the great Sweet and Sour chicken. After dinner, we left to the Aladdin for some gambling in hopes for a better performace.

Luckily for me, it did go well. After some bad hands, I was able to suck out and win a nice pot. For the next four hours, I only won four pots but those pots I won were big pots. Funny story about that last hour. A lady sits down with her boyfriend. She%26#39;s asian about mid 30s while he looked around mid 20s. She sat down with about $50 in chips and right off the bat, I knew she barely knew how to play. Her second hand, with lots of excitement, she showed her boyfriend(and half the table) her hand. It didnt take long for everyone to fold knowing that she had the best hand. A few hands later, someone before her raised the pot. Alas, someone forgot to inform her that she can only ';check'; when there%26#39;s no bet, but she ended up calling the bet. With her first to act, she then quickly folds, even after the daler informed her that she could check. When asked by her boyfriend why she didnt check, she replied ';My cards didnt match any of those cards'; while pointing to the flop. I thought that was very funny and after she left, I left soon after up $300 and feeling good.

Trip Report Day 2 - The Fab Four and some winning poker

Thanks for the detailed description of Fab Four. That%26#39;s a show I%26#39;ve wanted to see . . . just haven%26#39;t . . . and am more convinced than ever that I%26#39;d enjoy it.

Haven%26#39;t been around the forum much lately . . . where did you get the ';free'; tickets?

And was the theatre full? Were there any in line who did not get seated?

Trip Report Day 2 - The Fab Four and some winning poker

Like the last poster said, thank you for the detailed report on the Fab Four.... it really helps anybody who hasn%26#39;t seen it. I%26#39;ve seen something very similar in my area, so I%26#39;m sure I%26#39;d enjoy this show.

It%26#39;s easy to see why depression happens alot in Vegas, but spend a little time people watching, and watch that smile come back. =)

coffeemug, the free tickets are given to those who sign up for the Aladdin deals. If you remember a few weeks ago, there was a whole thing about the Aladdin deals. Even if you dont get free tickets, you can get the tickets at a good price at half price tickets. The theatre wasnt full with a couple of rows still empty.

Thanks for the trip report! Being a Beatles fan, I%26#39;ll have to see the Fab Four show on my next visit. Had forgotten about that show!

Thanks again for such great posts, I will try to see the Beatles show next time I am there as it sounds Fantastic.

Coffeemug, where you been lately?
