After finally checking into our suite on Sunday evening, we decided to just hang around the hotel and start out fresh in the morning. One of my friends had made a reservation to go to the Grand Canyon the next day. The next day she left early and we slept in. We decided to forgo breakfast and have an early lunch. We decided to go to Roxies Diner. This is a themed restaurant that made to look like a 50s diner and plays oldies records. Their menus look like 78 records. There is also a dee jay on premises spiinning records and keeping the patrons happy. what makes this restaurant really stand out is the singing waitresses and waiters. As they are serving the customers, the deejay calls them out and tells them the spotlight is on them. They then proceed to sing a song from the 50s or 60s. The singing was more professional than I expected. In my opinion they were good enough to be on any Las Vegas stage, It made the whole dining experience really special. After lunch my friend headed back to the Big Wheel of Fortune to try her luck again. I decided to head out. of the Strat. and seek my forturne elswhere. I boarded the Deuce heading South. My first stop was New York, New York I only stayed there a few minutes as I did not feel any vibes that anything exciting was going on there, The Casino looked tired to me with no sounds of winning going on. I crossed over to the Tropicana and the atmosphere seemed worse. this hotel really looked like it had seen better days. The casino seemed run down and even the slot machines looked less appealing and gimmicky. Needless to say I did not stay there long either. I was beginning to feel like Vega was changing on me and not for the better. The slots I was used to playing on seemed to not be there since my last visit which was earlier this year. I decided to go to the MGM Casino I stopped by the Lion Habitat to look at the lions and the trainers were in the cage feeding them, The lions were just lying around and seemed disinterested in what was going on. It was very crowded so I moved on looking for my favorite slot machines. I finally found some Double Diamond 2 coin slots, played them awhile with not much luck. I then decided to go find the IGT Keno Gamemaker machines. I found some in the corner and started to play them. I had the whole area to myself . After playing less than an hour I hit a 6 out of 6 with only 2 nickels in and won a whopping 1600 nickels. $100. Yippee! I cashed in my ticket and got the heck out of there. The payback on keno in Las Vegas really beats the payback in my home playground of Atlantic City.. 6 out of 6 only nets 625.
I then went on down the street to Hooters. I had been there before on my last trip and remembered it being a fun place with loose slots. I went into Hooters and the atmosphere seemed much brighter than the other two casinos. Everyone seemed to be having fun and there was a lot of shouting in the restaurant where games were playing on the tv screens. I walked around and found a bank of keno machines. I played for a while and was sitting next to a lady who was playing a different keno game, I kept glancing at her. She saw me watching her and graciously showed me how to play. We became fast friends from that moment on. We exchanged our best and worst gambling moments and discovered that we were both low rollers. She had me laughing at her stories of how she would be winning and still fail to play full coin and miss out on a large jackpot. I am also guilty at times of not putting in full coin and missing a good win. We played and drank strawberry daiquiris and rum and cokes. The afternoon flew by. I was feeling no pain.
By this time my new friend had to go meet some people. We said good by and I feeling hungry went into the cafe on the premises. I ordered their famous wings and a order of garlic bread. The meal was excellent and after paying headed back to the Stratosphere for the night.
Tuesday, we did sightseeing and played at a few of the Casinos on the strip. Went to buy tickets for the Toni Braxton show for Wednesday at the Flamingo and wound up staying there a good while. I won again playing keno and video poker. For some reason, I was having great luck on the keno machines and no luck on the slots. Hmmm! We ended up taking the Deuce downtown to Freemont Street. Went to the Paradise Buffet for dinner. Waited on a long line but the meal was pretty good. Played a while at the Fremont. Then went back to the Strat where my friend went back to the Wheel and lost a bundle. Couldn%26#39;t keep her off it. Played a while on video poker and then went up to bed.
Wednesday we had booked a trip to Hoover Dam and was picked up at 8:20 am for an express trip to Hoover Dam. The trip through the desert was awesome. The driver stopped at a look out point over Lake Mead then on to Hoover Dam. As this was an express tour we only stayed about an hour and a half. We were back at the hotel by 1:30 pm. Where we rested up before heading out to dinner and the Toni Braxton show. That evening we headed out to catch a bite and see the show. After walking around looking, we didn%26#39;t see anything that appealed so decided to wait till after the show to eat.
While passing the Barbary Coast, heard the music of Big Elvis and stopped in to see some of the show. He seemed to have a rapport with the crowd. Stayed a while then went on to the show. Toni%26#39;s show was awesome. She sung all her big hits and had five male dancers and five female dancers whom she danced right along side of. In between songs, she changed outfits while her dancers performed acrobats. Each outfit she wore was skimpier than the last. But girlfriend could pull it off. She looked fantastic. We really enjoyed the show. After the show we went downtown as by this time we were starving. Ended up going back to the Fremont to the Mansion Cafe. This is really a charming restaurtant upstairs overlooking the casino floor. The hostess seated us right over the tables. I ordered the prime rib special. They served it right away and it was a large portion with baked potato and broccoli and cheese sauce. The price was only $8.60 between 9:00 pm and 11:00pm. This is well worth checking out. We played for a while
at the Fremont then moved over to the Four Queens. My friends
wanted to go back to the Strat around 12:00 am. I was not ready to leave yet so I bid them goodby and continued to play. Around 3:00 am I was playing at Binions and won another jackpot on keno. This time with more money in. I cashed out $160.00. Hmm! Keno again, no slots. I called it a night and caught the Deuce home.
Thursday we were preparing to leave that evening so we pretty much stayed around the hotel did some souvernier shopping on the shopping level. Went uptstairs to the towers played aime more slots and packed. Another Vegas Vacation gone by in a flash of good times hope you enjoyed my report.
Las Vegas Trp Report 11/4 -11/9 Part II
My friend, I hate to be a downer, but 1600 nickels is not $100, it%26#39;s $80. Still a nice win, but it makes me wonder how many of the ';big wins'; I read about on this forum are not really as big as people claim. Then again, so many people in Vegas don%26#39;t seem to be willing or able to keep track of how much they lose, so I guess it makes sense that they don%26#39;t know how much they won, either.
Roxies DIner sounds like a fun place - is it located in the Stratosphere?
