I am heading to Las Vegas in a week. Sadly, I will not be staying in any of the hotels on the strip. I will be staying in Tahiti Village. And I just found out that I can%26#39;t walk from my location to the strip.
So what are my transportation options? Should I rent a car for the week? Are there other cheaper ways to get around? How do I get from the airport to my location (Tahiti Village)? Is my only option taking a taxi? Are taxis expensive in Vegas? If I rent a car in Vegas... is there free parking on the strip?
I have never been to Vegas before so I will appreciate any help. I hear it%26#39;s easy to spend so much in Vegas from food to shows so any advice on cheap transportation will help a lot.
I need help from the pros- ...staying in Tahiti Village
Tahiti Village... is that one of the Timeshare places? How far is it from the strip? If it is more than a few blocks, I would rent a car. What is the length of your stay? Parking is basically free on the strip. Valet service is not bad either... for a bit of a tip, it is nice to just have the car delivered to you when you are ready....but some places, such as TI have really easy self-parking lots.

Javari ...yes Tahiti Village is one of the timeshare places. It%26#39;s 3miles from the Strip. I will be in Vegas from the 18th to the 25th of November. So you are saying that my best bet is to rent a car right?
Rent a car. Drive up to strip, and valet or self park in hotel or casino of choice. Free parking in casino garages. Couple bucks tip if you valet park.
The most expensive part of your trip may be the presentation at Tahiti Village. If you%26#39;ve agreed to sit through a presentation for free/discounted lodging, hold on to your wallet. Timeshares that you pay $15,000-$30,000 for at a presentation are only worth about $2,000- $5,000 in the open (resale) market.
Tanya Roberts reels in a lot of people. At one time tahiti village was giving free rooms right on the strip, aka back door of the New Frontier.
I don’t think I have to seat for a presentation…my b/f and I are using his sister’s timeshare. And if they want me to sit for a presentation …I’ll scream!!!
If he already bought the timeshare, then you are ok. I have a friend going at a similar time, she bought one as well, so already listened to the presentation, then bought. Ok... actually, you should rent a car UNLESS one of the things you plan to do on the strip is drink a lot. Then, I would just take a cab and not worry about a thing. If drinking isn%26#39;t a big thing for you, then the rental car will give you a lot of freedom about where you are going and when you want to try something else or leave the strip, etc.
javarai is right. If you%26#39;re using somebody else%26#39;s timeshare, that%26#39;s a great situation. Plenty of room to spread out, refrigerator, coffeemaker, etc.
Many thanks for the comments. javarai I don%26#39;t drink so I guess I am covered there. :)
I like freedom so I think I%26#39;ll start my negotiations on Priceline.
I hope Las Vegas is fun! I can%26#39;t wait to go on this trip. I have been working all year and I really need this vacation. But this is my first vacation in the United States. I usually jet off some where outside the U.S.
What%26#39;s interesting about this whole thing is.. I think we are going to end up spending more money than we would have spent, if we vacationed outside the U.S. I still can%26#39;t get over the fact that we are spending more money than we spent when we went to Italy and Jamaica. lol
Tahiti Village has free shuttle service to the strip.
ReplyDeleteIf you want to go real cheap you could take the free shutle from the airport to the rental agency which is less than a mile to Tahiti Village and either walk or call a cab from there.
ReplyDeleteRental agency is located ate 7135 Gilespie St.
Personally I would rent a car. The strip is very spread out. Bring your best walking shoes b/c when on the strip the casino "just next door" is a good mile walk. With a rental you can zip from casino to casino easily. They all have free self parking. Buses are a pain in the butt. You can walk almost as fast as they move (with all the people getting on/off every block).
Plus if you are in VEGAS you must go to FREMONT STREET in old downtown Vegas. There is a 3 block long canopy made of lights that stretches from one side of the street to the other. They play a different light show every hour on the hour between 6pm and midnight. (www.fremontstreetexperience.com)
There are two balconies in DT. One is at the Golden Nugget in a night club (pay. The other is a free one and is at the Fitzgerald. This is a great romantic place to watch the show.
Also when in DT go see "THE TANK AT THE GOLDEN NUGGET". Always ranked a top 5 pool in the entire world. Has a gigantic shark tank with a see through waterslide that goes through the middle of it. Just google "the tank golden nugget images". And try the deep fried oreos at the Mermaids for a buck. (also have deep fried twinkies and chocolate covered bananas)
