This week the Stardust is open for previewing all it%26#39;s contents, which will be auctioned off next week. Walking through it feels like an episode of the Twilight Zone. All the elevators are parked in the lobby, doors opened, but no longer making the ascent to guest rooms. The tables are set in the Steak House, but no more meals are served. Slot machines are gone, table games stand idle and vacant. I wandered throughout the whole place. I stood on stage in the theatre. I even found Wayne Newtons old dressing room. The suites on the first floor west wing were open. They were impressive rooms, complete with private outdoor jacuzzis. Now it all just majestically sits there, waiting to be imploded.
I wish I could have stayed longer. It was a trip through a piece of Vegas history, soon to be reduced to just rubble and memories.
An eerie stroll through the Stardust
My friends and I went to have ';one last'; drink at the Stardust in August 2006. Even then it was very slow with patrons and quiet, almost seemed to be anticipating its impending doom. It%26#39;s too bad Vegas is tearing down such a huge piece of its history...sad...must have been really cool though to tour the place. Any idea when they are tearing it down?

Haven%26#39;t been on the forum much lately . . . what%26#39;s going to be built at this location?
I think it%26#39;s going to be ';Echelon Place';, which is a mixed use casino/condos/hotel/shopping. Seems this is the trend as the market for celebs and folks with means to buy condos in the heart of the action. Go to www.vegastodayandtomorrow.com for all the sorrid details.
Thanks, Mark. Interestly enough, I received my daily QOD from LV Advisor shortly after I posted that this morning . . . their question was about what%26#39;s happening with the Ho property . . . but they touched upon this, too.
Sounds like the North Strip is getting a face lift :)
How ya been, Mark? Headed back to Vegas soon?
I am going back in June for the yearly anniversary trip. I was close to vegas (about 3 hours outside) on a recent trip to Cali, but chose to do the mountains over the glitz. I need one nature trip and one vegas trip a year to keep the balance!
when will they be imploding the Stardust?
Folks there were saying it would probably be sometime in March. It takes them several months to prep the building.
Im sad to see the Stardust go. I was there in Feb. 06. Spent several hours playing, seen Rick Thomas, and had a great steak dinner. The casino was as busy as any I visited. The new property will never have the character or historic status as the Stardust. I hate to see history die!
Man, I just got addicted to this place too :-(
bye bye Tony Roma%26#39;s....bye bye penny slots
