Last time, asked for an upgrade and didn%26#39;t get one. Well, ok, we got one but had to pay for it %26gt;:-(
I was reading someone%26#39;s message there about the $20 trick. I would love to try this, but am afraid the desk clerk would get offended or something...
We are staying at the Barbary. I know they have Jacuzzi rooms as their only upgrade. So, should I try the ';flowers for anniversary'; trick or just go up and say: Do you have any upgrades? If s/he goes to check should I then hand over the cash? Or should I wait and see does s/he give me an upgrade and if they start to say no, then produce the money or what?
The above example was only one of several where I have tried, and failed, to get a freebie (**boo hoo* LOL) so I must be doing something wrong. Do you just have to have balls of steel, or what?!?
The $20 trick etc want to try it but nervousJust play on the irish accent in the same way I do with the English accent and you%26#39;ll get the upgrade for nothing, keep the $20 for gambling with!!!!
The $20 trick etc want to try it but nervousReally no such thing as a $20 trick. That is a throw back to the days when the wise guys ran the place in the 50%26#39;s to 70%26#39;s.
All you have to do is askpolitely if any grattis upgrades are available for your stay. You will get one of 3 answers.
1. Yes.
2. No but $x amount extra you can be upgraded.
3. All booked up, none available at any price.
Yes, a large tip or bribe to the front desk clerk really does work. Most people have a price and will do everything they can to help people that will give them a large tip.
I talked to someone who worked at the front desk at TI and he told me that he has alot of latitude in assigning people upgrades and room location. While he can not assign the Presidential Suite to someone who bribes him $20, he could give a small suite or a specific room location, such as a high floor.
Large tips or bribes do wonders in Las Vegas and other places.
I wanted to do the $20 dollar trick but lost my nerve.
