Trip report 11/05/06-11/09/06:Flamingo-Days 4 and 5

Wednesday, 11/08/06: Forgot to mention that the day before was election day. Very different perspective when you are not at home, already voted prior to leaving home and are getting ready to eat dinner and are hearing results from the east coast because it is almost 11 pm at home. Took until this morning to find out who won certain races at home. Went to Bellagio buffet, of course. People in front of us were traveling back to New York and their plane for 4 pm was already listed as delayed. I happened to see on the weather channel that there was a ton of rain on the East coast. I felt bad for them-leaving 85 and sunny for 3 inches of rain. I had done so, well

shopping I wanted to do more. This time I really kicked butt. For those of you who like a bargain, I got a jacket and pants at Ann Taylor that should have cost $230 for $75 and a gift card to use in December for $25. Eddie Bauer at Desert Passage was having a sale we did not see earlier in the week. Got 2 shirts and 3 sweaters-yes, we went to the desert and bought sweaters

for $120-should have been $50 a piece. Checked out the forum shops one more time and got 2 more shirts at Banana Republic for $18. OK, I was done. Cut too close to our lunch reservation at Mon Ami Gabi-so, took the bags with us to lunch. Walked in and checked in at the desk and mentioned that we made our reservation for in the Pavilion (the room right inside the patio) by the glass. Made this on opentable.com prior to leaving. The hostess said verty rudely I have nothing in there. My husband said ok well maybe our table is set aside already because of our request if you just look we would appreciate it. Very loud she says just stand to the side. Now, normally I would say let%26#39;s just go but, it was Vegas and we love having lunch each trip at Mon Ami Gabi so, we stepped to the side without saying anything. After she checked, she realized she already put aside our table. But she did not apologize, just ignored us and left the manager to take care of us. First time we have ever had a problem at MAG. I think she was truly embarassed but, there was no reason to yell at us in front of other customers and staff. Anyway, that aside, we had a great waiter. Decided on the soup and salad. I had Pumpkin soup and salad maison (field greens) and my husband had the French onion soup and a salad. We love the bread in the paper bag. Food was great. After lunch, made a trip back to the room to put the bags away. Back out to gamble-could not win anything. Went back up to room to change for dinner. Walked to the Venetian stopping at Harrah%26#39;s along the way to lose more money.

Saw a lot of military guys with girls in gowns. Won $20 at the Venetian. Went to Postrio for dinner. Had requested a table on the inside wall of the restaurant-very nice table. We had a great waitress. The restaurant was very busy but, we never felt rushed or left out. Excellent service. Started with 2 Postrio Mai tais-very good and strong! Turned this meal into 3 courses, too. Started with the toasted pumpkin ravioli. Then, the apple and walnut salad and filet mignon. No room for dessert. Cannot remember the exact cost.

About $150 with tax (before tip). I haven%26#39;t had filet mignon 3 times in 6 months let alone 3 times in one trip. Walking back to Flamingo, we stop in Harrah%26#39;s for my husband to play rapid roulette. Hit 4 13%26#39;s in 10 minutes and cashes out with $320! We walk over to Barbary-I wanted to play deal or no deal again and I win $80! Now, we were back on house money. Got tired after a while and headed back to the room.

Thursday, 11/09/06: Last day. After the buffet, we went back to check out. Packed and did video checkout-very easy-left keys in room. Stored bags with baggage claim. And had 3 hours to kill.

Had a little house money so, just played until that was gone and went home even. To me that is winning! Watched the Rutgers-Louisville hype on ESPN before leaving. My husband-Rutgers graduate woiuld be on a plane for the biggest game in school history. We really wished we could have watched it on the plane.

Got bags out of baggage claim and caught a taxi to the airport.

No trouble checking in except we were told to go in the wrong line.

The girl was so kind to take us to the right line. The check-in girl said since the merger even they get confused. Funny, one of our bags was too heavy so, we had to sit on the floor of the airport and repack a little. Then, they were more even. Never had that happen.

Security was fine. Landed early in Philly. We were walking to baggage claim and both of us looked up at the same time to a TV

in a bar we passed and there was the Rutgers faithful storming the field on ESPN. And we just stopped in our tracks and said Oh my God they won! My husband was so happy! He is still smiling! The bartender filled us in on how it ended and we got our bags. Usually we are bummed to come home but, that made it eaiser for sure.

Forgot to mention our rate for the Flamingo was 85 for 3 nights and 75 for one night. No deal was just the rate when we booked. Hope you enjoyed the report! Our next trip is Disney in February.....so, this was it in Vegas for awhile.

Thanks for posting, I enjoyed your reports. We are staying at the Flamingo in Dec. I reserved the room a couple of months ago before the GO rooms were being advertised. I am worried a little about the room, because we got such a good deal. Seven nights the 21st-28th. I just want a nice room, not a remodeled one.

We also have reservations at Mon Ami Gabi for the 22nd, I mentioned it was our anniversary on open table, so I am hoping for a nice table.

My husband lost money on that Rutgers- U of L game, he wasn%26#39;t too upset, just said, I guess they are for real. It truely was a great football game! Also a great football statement Rutgers has made. Good luck!

OK EAG20, last night I was happy I had had dinner and reading this now, well I%26#39;m glad I%26#39;m still full from lunch because you do a wonderful job of explaining the meals. I won%26#39;t comment on your good memory, because I never forget a meal either, but you done good!

And that was quite a game, haven%26#39;t talked to my nephew, but he%26#39;s a frosh there and I hope he got to go.

Yeah, I will be at Flamingo Dec 19-24, can%26#39;t wait... I hope I can upgrade (free) to Go Room or smashing view. I haven%26#39;t made any restaurant reservations yet. Might have to try Moni Gabi since so many mention it.

Foxywood-Thanks! Funny how it is easy to remember a good meal!

Teachrsue-Thanks! When we checked-in, we asked for a room that was recently (within the last 5 years) renovated and that fit our criteria-non-smoking and king. I wanted a high-strip view but, really was not sure about a GO room. All of the high floors are GO rooms. She did offer us a GO room but, it was not going to be ready until 4 pm. We passed-eventually it will be all GO rooms. The room we received was ready and very nice. I was surprised how much I liked the 7th floor. When you sat on the couch or the bed, you looked out to all of the beautiful trees. I really liked the view. Javarai-MAG is nice. If you want a patio seat, you just let them know when you get there. You may need to wait a little while past your reservation time.
