Best route for drive from Dallas to Las Vegas?

Hello Tripadvisers,

My daughter is getting married in Las Vegas and I need to get my family of seven (four adults and 3 kids) to Las Vegas for New Year%26#39;s Eve. Plane fare is too much for this family right after Christmas, so we%26#39;ve decided to rent an SUV and make the drive. We are staying outside of the city, so lodging is not a problem.

Have any of you made this trip? What is the best route for us to take? How are road conditions at this time of the year? Several people have said that the road is winding and too time consuming to make, but I think we can do it!
